Sam Hood works an independent Animator, Character Designer, and Concept / Storyboard Artist throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Sam started his career in animation in 1996 at Wildbrain Studios where he worked as a Production Assistant on the feature film Ferngully 2. While at Wildbrain, Sam worked on numerous award-winning projects and worked his way up from Production Assistant to Key Assistant, Animator, and Designer. Sam made his directorial debut in 1999 with “Chia Head” a stop-motion station identification for Nickelodeon’s network Noggin.

In 2000, Sam created Groovemonkee, an original animated short for Cartoon Network. As the director of Groovemonkee, Sam was the winner of the 2001 Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Production Produced for the Internet.

In 2002, Sam went freelance and developed the My Web Prototype, the first animated web browser for kids. In 2003, Sam worked as the Lead Animator on the Napster relaunch, which won a Clio Award for Internet Advertising in 2004.

Recently, Sam’s work has included character design for an exhibit at the Chabot Space and Science Museum, storyboard animatics for Hershey’s Kisses commercials, traditional 2D animation for PBS and Game Boy, and Flash Animation for Happy Tree Friends, Yahoo! And Leapfrog.
